What GradeX is

GradeX is a mobile-first, AI-powered card grading app for sports cards and trading cards. You scan a card with your phone — front, back, corners, edges — and within about a minute the app returns predicted PSA, BGS, CGC, and TAG grades, a defect map, a target sell price, and a route into a verified marketplace.

Who it's for

Two audiences specifically:

  • Collectors who want a second opinion on whether a card is worth submitting to a professional grader before paying $25–$300 in grading fees.
  • Sellers and dealers who need consistent, defensible condition reports across hundreds of cards a month and a marketplace where verified buyers can act on them immediately.

GradeX is not a replacement for slabbing — only PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC, and TAG can issue a grade that makes a card officially graded. GradeX's job is to tell you what those graders are likely to return so you can decide whether to ship it in.

How the AI works

The pipeline runs Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.5 with extended thinking enabled. Two passes happen in parallel: a primary grading call that scores all four subgrades and identifies the card, plus a defect-localisation specialist that does nothing but find every imperfection. Their outputs are merged via spatial deduplication so you see everything both models saw, with severity and location labels.

Borderline predictions trigger two extra runs at higher temperature and we take the median — a self-consistency technique that catches 50/50 cases the single pass would call inconsistently. A learned calibration offset corrects for any systematic bias against the actual grades that come back from PSA / BGS / CGC / TAG over time.

Centering is measured by you, not the AI. After scanning, an interactive 8-line wizard asks you to drop four red lines on the card's outer edges and four green lines on the inner design border, with a leveling slider for any residual tilt. The AI is told to use your numbers as ground truth.

What makes it different

  • Four graders in one scan. Most tools simulate PSA only. GradeX runs the same raw analysis against PSA, BGS, CGC, and TAG rubrics — including BGS subgrades and TAG's numeric 1–1000 score.
  • Explainable, not opaque. Every defect is shown on the card image with a colored marker; you can tap to see the AI's description and reject any finding you disagree with, then re-run with the rejection respected.
  • User-driven centering. Centering is the single most-disputed subgrade. Doing it yourself with the wizard removes the AI as a guess source.
  • Built-in marketplace. Verified users can list cards from their vault, accept offers or propose trades, chat in-app, and complete payment via Stripe Connect. Trades are free; sales carry a flat 2% fee.
